The success of the new campaign will depend largely ------ customer engagement on social media. (A) of — (B) on — (C) to — (D) with

Collocation Traduction Exemple
depend on / rely on dépendre de / compter sur We rely on local suppliers.
participate in participer à participate in the workshop
comply with se conformer à comply with regulations
apply for (poste) / apply to (organisme) postuler à / s'adresser à apply for the position
consist of se composer de The kit consists of three parts.
contribute to contribuer à contribute to the project
benefit from bénéficier de benefit from the discount
register for s'inscrire à register for the seminar

Adjectifs + préposition :

Collocation Traduction
responsible for responsable de
familiar with bien connaître, être familier de
eligible for admissible à, éligible à
aware of conscient de
committed / dedicated to engagé dans, dévoué à
compatible with compatible avec

Noms + préposition :

Collocation Exemple
an increase / a decrease in an increase in sales
demand for the demand for electric cars
access to access to the database
reason for the reason for the delay
effect / impact on the impact on profits
solution to a solution to the problem

Les pièges du TOEIC

  1. L'interférence du français. C'est le piège numéro un pour vous : « dépendre de » → depend on (jamais of) ; « participer à » → participate in ; « responsable de » → responsible for ; « une solution au problème » → a solution to. Traduire mot à mot mène droit au distracteur.
  2. Un mot, plusieurs prépositions, plusieurs sens. agree with + personne (I agree with you), agree to + proposition (agree to a proposal), agree on + point négocié (agree on a date). De même : apply for un poste, mais apply to une entreprise ou une école.
  3. « increase in » vs « increase of ». In introduit le domaine qui augmente (an increase in costs) ; of introduit le montant (an increase of 10%).
  4. « to » préposition + gérondif.

  • an increase in + domaine, an increase of + chiffre.
  • Après look forward to et be committed to, employez le gérondif : looking forward to meeting you.
